What is a nanny?
A nanny is somebody who looks after the child or children in the family home. Nannies can have sole charge of babies and children, and take responsibility for all duties relating to the children, including cooking, washing and ironing for them, as well as cleaning the children’s bedrooms and playroom.
A nanny has a formal childcare qualification, for example NNEB, BTEC or ADCE, or is a former au pair with at least 2 years’ experience.
Who can work as a nanny with Swedish Connection?
To work as a nanny you must:

be aged 18 or older; and
-
be a former au pair with at least 2 years’ experience; or
-
have formal childcare qualification, for example NNEB, BTEC or ADCE; and
-
have a valid and clear CRB check; and
-
have a Paediatric First Aid certificate
Working hours & salary
A live-in nanny may work up to 12 hours per day, plus up to 2 evenings babysitting per week. Live-in nannies usually earn between £295 and £800 gross per week. Salaries depend on the nanny’s level of experience and hours agreed.

Live-out nannies usually work fixed hours, with normal working hours being 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Salaries are usually between £10 to £15 net per hour. Babysitting is paid separately, upon agreement with the family.

Nannies get a minimum of 4 weeks’ paid holiday for every 12 months’ work, upon agreement with the family, as well as all public holidays off.
What is a returning au pair?
A returning au pair is someone who looks after the child or children in the family home, either with sole charge or with a parent present. A returning au pair may only have sole charge of children aged 2 or older.
A returning au pair holds no professional childcare qualifications, but has practical experience and a genuine interest in children. They can take responsibility for all duties relating to the children, including cooking, washing and ironing for them, as well as cleaning the children’s bedrooms and playroom.
Who can work as a returning au pair with Swedish Connection?

To work as a returning au pair you must:

be aged 18 or older

be a former au pair with at least 6 months experience or have worked as a child carer for at least 6 months

have a valid and clear DBS check

have a Paediatric First Aid certificate
Working hours & salary
A returning au pair may work up to 10 hours per day, as well as 2 evenings babysitting. Salaries range from £125 - £300 net for a live-in position depending on the hours worked. If you live out, around £10 net per hour and babysitting is paid separately, upon agreement with the family.
Returning au pairs get a minimum of 4 weeks’ paid holiday for every 12 months’ worked, upon agreement with the family, as well as all public holidays off.

Interview
Once we’ve received your application we’ll find a time to speak, where we can get to know you better and start matching you with suitable families..

Choose a family
Interviews with families are usually conducted face-to-face. When you’ve found the family you would like to work for and you are both happy, we can help you make the final arrangements and have a contract written up.

Arrange your arrival
Keep in contact with your employer up until your arrival, read through your contract and discuss start dates and travel plans together.
